ENR Southeast 2023 Best Projects: Merit Residential/Hospitality - Caption by Beale Street Hotel

On October 30th, ENR Southeast selected Caption by Hyatt for an Award of Merit for its Residential/Hospitality category. Catalyst provided civil engineering services for the project located at the base of Beale Street on the Mississippi River bluff. ENR Southeast recognized Caption by Hyatt for its contemporary architecture and repurposing of the historic main building of William C. Ellis & Sons Ironworks and Machine Shop. This building was one of the earliest and longest-running businesses in Memphis, and as such, it was thoughtfully used to house the hotel’s ground and second floors with a new 136-guestroom tower added above.
The hotel also features a multifunctional lounge space (called the Talk Shop) where guests can enjoy an expansive patio, double-height beer garden, and fire pits. The 10-story Caption by Hyatt Memphis connects to the adjacent Hyatt Centric hotel which Catalyst Design Group also completed.
