Waterworks Park Playscape
The new “playscape” designed by Catalyst staff tells the story of the City of Atlanta’s drinking water from its source of the Chattahoochee River to the water tap. Working closely with the leadership of the adjacent Hemphill Water Treatment Plant, the design team developed a plan that utilizes interpretive panels, salvaged and restored water-related infrastructure, and metaphorical playscape elements to explain the eight-step process utilized at the plant: Intake, Coagulation, Flocculation, Sedimentation, Filtration, Disinfection, Storage and Distribution which takes place at the adjacent Hemphill Water Treatment Plant. These fun and educational elements provide an urban oasis and educational experience for visitors and residents of one of Atlanta’s fastest growing urban neighborhoods.
Following the success of Waterworks Park Playscape, the Upper Westside Community Improvement District engaged Catalyst Design Group to assist with the design of The Hill, an adjacent two-acre greenspace.
