Flamingo Visitor Center
As the east gateway to the National Park Service’s Everglades National Park, the Flamingo Visitor Center provides educational facilities for guests entering the 1.5 million-acre preserve. The Flamingo Visitors Center project included the renovation of the original mid-century modern architectural facility (which was constructed in 1957 as one of the Park Service’s first Mission 66 buildings) and the 18-acre site renovation designed to restore the landscape back to its original design and plant palette. The Everglades National Park is the largest subtropical wilderness in the country and is identified as a World Heritage Site, an International Biosphere Reserve, and a Wetland of International Importance.
