Lakeland Se7en Wetlands Trails

Se7en Wetlands is a 1,600-acre reclaimed phosphate mine that serves as a wetland treatment system for the additional and final treatment of the City’s wastewater. The master plan effort and project implementation is a partnership between the Parks and Recreation Department and the Department of Water Utilities and utilizes 20’–60’-high levees around the seven basins as part of the 20 miles of unpaved trails atop and at the base of the levees. Filled with a diversity of wildlife, interpretive stations, and boardwalks, the park and trail system has seen over 25,000 visitors in three years since its opening—with only a few miles of trails available—and has become a popular destination for school groups.

Future phases will include the new 5,000-SF Wetlands Education + Welcome Center and multiple education venues spread throughout the site.
