Lake Wales 1st Street Cycle Track and Streetscape

The 3,300’ 1st Street Cycle Track and Streetscape is a complete street designed to balance the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, transit, and autos. The project’s pedestrian-oriented design features parallel parking, broad sidewalks, a cycle track, shade trees and site furnishings. The space to accommodate these improvements was accomplished by narrowing the existing travel lanes and eliminating unnecessary turn lanes. The improvements were designed to integrate with the City’s new 1,700’ Park Avenue Streetscape previously designed by Catalyst landscape architects. This new cycle track is a critical link in the regional proposed trail network. The completed public improvements will not only provide better linkages between Downtown and the Northwest neighborhood but will also set the stage for private sector investment along the corridor.
