Marjory Stoneman Douglas Visitor
Contact Station

Located in Everglades City, Florida, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Visitor Contact Station is the western gateway to the Florida Everglades. The project is the replacement of the existing facility with a 4,236-SF building designed with hurricane resiliency features, LEED Silver requirements, and the ability to accommodate 50 years of projected sea level rise. The building will provide a visitor contact area, retail, and storage space for the concessioner operations, ranger stations, public and staff restrooms, law enforcement space, administrative offices, vending, and shaded views from the surrounding plazas and elevated decks to Chokoloskee Bay.

The site will accommodate visitor and staff parking, tour buses, and upgrades to the Gulf Coast Marina concession operation including kayak, canoe, and backcountry equipment rental and storage. The updated harbor area will accommodate tour and law enforcement watercraft and storage. Stormwater bioswales and rain garden basins will pretreat stormwater prior to discharge into the bay.
