South Lake Howard Nature Park Progresses with Green Infrastucture

March 10, 2026

Construction is underway for South Lake Howard Nature Park in Winter Haven, Florida. The park transforms essential stormwater infrastructure into functional public amenity space while improving Lake Howard's water quality by filtering runoff through natural, eco-friendly systems. By treating stormwater from surrounding roadways and neighborhoods, this piece of green infrastructure reduces local flooding and provides a wildlife habitat, while simultaneously enhancing community life through new trails, boardwalks, picnic areas, a kayak launch, a disc golf course, a playground, an interpretative education island, and a fishing pier. The master plan also allows for future amenities, including a nature education center.

Catalyst provided master planning and construction documents for the expansion of this 28-acre park on Lake Howard’s south shore. The project is being funded through Heartland Headwaters & FRDAP Grants as well as City Funds.
